Dear list members,
There was a discussion in March about the IAST wikipedia page because it
incorrectly listed m overdot as anusvara instead of m underdot.
See:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Alphabet_of_Sanskrit_Transliteration
After the discussion Dominik Wujstyk corrected the wikipedia article last
March.
But I went to the IAST wikipedia page today and in the chart in the section
"I*nventory and conventions*" for anusvara it has:
ं ṃ(ṁ) Ṃ(Ṁ) anusvara <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anusvara>
It was changed to that by Hemant Dabral in April with the comment in the
revisions page "Mdotbelow is the primary transliteration Mdotabove is
alternative..
My understanding is that this is incorrect. The reason this is important is
that it complicates searchs over multiple texts that use IAST
transliteration.
Thanks,
Harry Spier
