I had the pleasure of studying with David as an undergraduate, though not nearly as much as I had wanted (he went on sabbatical, then I was abroad on one of Wisconsin’s year abroad in India programs). He was especially well-loved amongst the students, both undergraduate and graduate, as always being willing to share his time and expertise.

Thank you, John. So sorry to hear this news. David was a wonderful human being, and a fine and empathetic scholar. I has been some time since we corresponded, but I valued him as a friend and scholar. May his memory be a blessing.

Dear Colleagues,
With apologies for cross-posting, I am writing to share the sad news of the passing of David Knipe. A scholar of Vedism who taught at the University of Wisconsin at Madison for 35 years, David lived in Virginia with his wife Susan Stevens (Professor Emerita, Randolph College) following his retirement. Please see the following link for David's obituary and if you would like to send condolences or flowers:

John
