Dear colleagues,
The Astral Sciences in Trans-Regional Asia (ASTRA) research group at the
Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) is excited to
announce its new lecture series:
The Ludic Languages of Asia: Sources and Terminologies [1]
The series brings together leading game scholars working with primary
sources in a variety of Asian languages. It focuses on the texts and
contexts of games and demonstrates the need for transcultural and
interdisciplinary approaches. Though boards, dice, and pawns may look
deceptively similar, their function and meaning can change dramatically
across space, time, and culture.
The first lecture takes place online on Friday 14th February,
14:00-15:00 CET [2]. Here Amit Deshmukh will explore the prosperous
landscape of games and gaming in medieval Marathi literature.
Registration is not required. You can join freely via Zoom:

We look forward to seeing you for all the fun, games, and discussion!
Best regards,
Jacob
