RE: Section of Linguistics, 19th World Sanskrit Conference in Kathmandu,
Nepal, 26-30 June 2025

Dear members of the Indology List and of the BVParishat,

As one of the most widely recognized branches of science represented in all
major universities of the world, linguistics is also the scientific
discipline where the solid and clearly identifiable pioneering achievements
of the Sanskrit tradition from the first millennium BCE onwards are most
widely recognized. Abstracts of articles in the broad field of Sanskrit
linguistics are invited preferably in English, because of its status as a
scientific language of general accessibility throughout the world; but
also, given its long-standing status as an academic language in
linguistics, in Sanskrit.

Topics could include the linguistic analysis of Sanskrit (including Vedic
Sanskrit, and Sanskrit/Vedic from an Indo-Iranian and/or Indo-European
perspective), linguistic theories and semantics, the history of linguistics
with reference to Sanskrit...

All abstracts submitted to the Linguistics section will be judged in the
same transparent manner based on the originality of the contribution (
*apūrvatva*), the indication of evidence in the form of linguistic
observations and source citations (*pratyakṣa*), the theoretical framework (
*āgama*), and, where appropriate, a summary of the argument (*anumāna*).
Papers dealing primarily with philological issues or non-linguistic topics
will be referred to one of the other sections of the 19th World Sanskrit
Conference.

***Please note that the extended deadline is now set at 30 September 2024

conference to June 2025, and did not receive an abstract confirmation, you
are invited to resubmit.)

With best regards, the conveners of the Section of Linguistics, 19th WSC,
