[INDOLOGY] Civakacintamani 2039

Dear scholars,

 

I have a question on the critical text of verse 2039 in the Cīvakacintāmaṇi. 

 

The following is the reading given by UVS. See attachment.

 

கள்ளமூப்பினந்தணன்கனிந்தகீதவீதியே

வள்ளிவென்றநுண்ணிடைமழைமலர்த்தடங்கணார

புள்ளுவம்மதிமகன்புணர்த்தவோசைமேற்புகன்

றுள்ளம்வைத்தமாமயிற்குழாத்தினோடியெய்தினார்

 

The following is the reading given in by Aracu and Perumaḻaippulavar as found in the Tamil virtual Academy website (https://www.tamilvu.org/node/154572?linkid=135162) and their commentary.

கள்ள மூப்பி னந்த ணன்க னிந்தகீத வீதியே

வள்ளி வென்ற நுண்ணி டைம ழைம லர்த்த டங்கணார்

புள்ளு வம்ம திம்ம கன்புணர்த்த வோசை மேற்புகன்

றுள்ளம் வைத்த மாம யிற்கு ழாத்தி னோடி யெய்தினார்

(இ - ள்.) புள்ளுவம் மதிமகன் புணர்த்த ஓசைமேற் புகன்று - வேட்டுவனாகிய அறிவுடையான், தம் மோசையாக அழைக்கின்ற ஓசையின் மேலே விரும்பி; உள்ளம் வைத்த மாமயில் குழாத்தின் - மனம் வைத்த மயில்திரள் ஓடுமாறு போல; கள்ளமூப்பின் அந்தணன் கனிந்த கீதவீதி - கள்ள முதுமையை உடைய அந்தணனின் முற்றுப்பெற்ற இசையின் வழியே; வள்ளி வென்ற நுண்இடை மழைமலர்த் தடங்கணார் - கொடியை வென்ற நுண்ணிய இடையையுடைய. குளிர்ந்த மலரனைய பெருங்கண்ணார் எல்லோரும்; ஓடி எய்தினார் - ஓடிச் சேர்ந்தார்.

(வி - ம்.) வள்ளி - வல்லி; கொடி. புள்ளுவ மதி மகன் - புள்ளின் ஓசையைத் தன்னிடத்தே உடைய மகன், புள்ளுவம் - வஞ்சகம். மதி - அறிவு, எனப்பொருள் கொண்டு வஞ்சக வறிவுடைய மனிதன் எனக் கொள்ளினும் பொருந்தும்.

   கள்ள மூப்பு - வாய்மையல்லாதமூப்பு. அந்தணன் : சீவகன். புகன்று விரும்பி.

The questions I have are (1) Is matimmakaṉ with an -m- after mati- in the original text? If so, did UVS miss it in his publication? Is that extra -m- introduced due to metrical considerations? If so, does the -m in puḷḷuvam also belong in the same category meaning the semantically relevant underlying text in the original is only puḷḷuvamatimakaṉ and not puḷḷuvam matimakaṉ as given by UVS?
