  If one continues searching for the masculine usage of /padma,/ one  
finds more examples:

vasante śītabhītena kokilena vane rutam
antarjalagatāḥ padmāḥ śrotukāmā ivotthitāḥ
(quoted by Rājaśekhara in chapter 14 of his /Kāvyamīmāṃsā/)

Vallabhadeva’s /Subhāṣitāvali /292:
jaḍe prabhavati prāyo duḥkhaṃ bibhrati sādhavaḥ
sitāṃśāv udite padmāḥ saṃkocātaṅkadhāriṇaḥ
