The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is part of the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and
Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows" at the University of Heidelberg
(http://www.vjc.uni‐hd.de/). For the winter term 2008/2009 the GPTS offers
3 short‐term (3 month) scholarships for Asian PhD/Doctoral students
The GPTS is looking for applicants with an excellent academic background. Selected students will take part in the regular programme of the GPTS and contribute actively to it. The scholarships are awarded for 3 months. Scholarship holders are expected to be in Heidelberg between October 2008 and February 2009. The short‐term scholarship includes travel expenses to Heidelberg and back home, and a monthly stipend of 1000,‐ €.
Currently contributors to the Cluster work in the fields of Anthropology, Archeology, Art History,South and East Asian Studies, Assyriology, Cultural Studies, English Philology, Ethnology, Geography, History,
Indology, Islamic Studies, Musicology, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Health, Religious Studies,
Sinology, Sociology and others. Reflecting the interdisciplinary approach of the Cluster, the GSTS invites
Asian doctoral students from these as well as other disciplines from the humanities and social sciences to apply.
Candidates submit their applications including a letter of intention (400 words maximum), a CV, and a
project proposal (1000 words) related to the major themes and topics of the Cluster to the online application system (https://www.w1system08.de/vjc/intern/start_start_for.php).
Electronic submission of the application is mandatory.
Deadline for application is August 31st, 2008.
