Dear list members,
could someone please help me with the term "bhautika" apllied to
brahmacaarins? The dictionaries are not very specific. According
to PW/pw/MW, a bhautika is "a sort of monk".

The 'Sivadharma'saastra (edition forthcoming) distinguishes between
nai.s.thika and bhautika brahmacaarins. Since the former may be taken
as permanent/lifelong brahmacaarins, I suspect the latter are
temporary ones. Is the term known in other (Dharmasastra) texts?

Thanks in advance

Reinhold Gruenendahl
