The Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University
of Chicago seeks to fill a position in Sanskrit studies to begin fall,
1993. This will be a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant
professor.
 
We are looking for expertise and range in Sanskrit and demonstrated
engagement with contemporary theoretical issues pertaining to South Asian
studies. Primary teaching duties include elementary and advanced
(especially classical) Sanskrit, in rotation with other faculty, and
participation in our theoretically oriented graduate core courses.
Knowledge of other premodern South Asian languages will be an advantage.
 
Candidates are asked to send a c.v., and a letter fully describing their
current and longterm research and teaching interests (samples of
scholarship and letters of recommendation may be requested at a later date)
