Hi Ananya,

I analyzed key parts of the Vanaparvan's "Story of the Brahmin and the Butcher,” MBh 3.198–206--juxtaposing it with the Mokṣadharmaparvan's "Dialogue of the Merchant Tulādhara and the Seer Jājali" by means of the theme "Ahiṃsā-Sadācāra"-- in a paper entitled "Why So Many ‘Other’ Voices in the ‘Brahmin’ Mahābhārata?" in Primary Sources and Asian Pasts, edited by Peter Bisschop and Elizabeth Cecil. Berlin: de Gruyter, 2021: 21-43.

All the best, Jim

Dear Indologists,

I wanted to talk to somebody who knows either or both of these texts reasonably well -- Bhāravi's Kirātārjunīyam, and an episode involving a virtuous hunter / butcher Dharmavyādha in the Vanaparva of the Mahābhārata. I've read Indira Peterson on the Kirātārjunīyam. If anyone knows anything, please write to me separately. I'd be happy to read articles or books, and be in communication with experts.

Thanks and best,

Ananya.
