Columbia University
The Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University invites applications for a Lectureship in Sanskrit and Tamil languages. This is a limited term appointment for two years from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028. Teaching
duties include elementary and intermediate Sanskrit every year, and elementary and intermediate Tamil in alternate years. Applicants should submit the following materials: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching evaluations, statement of teaching philosophy
and methodology, and sample teaching materials. Applicants also should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be uploaded into ASR.
Applications received by May 14, 2026 will receive full consideration.
Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who have a Ph.D., but those with a Master’s degree and considerable language teaching experience are also encouraged to apply. Native or near-native fluency in Hebrew and English, foreign language instruction experience,
and an oral proficiency based approach are required.
