Each year, the Deutsche Morgenländische Gesellschaft offers up to three travel scholarships to junior researchers who specialize in a humanities branch of Oriental Studies. Applicants need to hold a Master’s or equivalent degree.

Scholarships include an allowance of up to 2000 Euros for travels that aim at an improvement of language skills and knowledge of the country, and which are designed specifically for the purpose of furthering an envisaged scientific qualification or a particular research project (e.g., archives, libraries, field research) related to the respective country of specialization.

Applications (CV, outline of the aims of the project, and justification of the need to undertake travel) are to be submitted, no later than the 1st of March of each year, to the First Chairman of the DMG:

Prof. Dr. Stefan Weninger
Centrum für Nah- und Mittelost-Studien
Philipps-Universität Marburg
Deutschhausstr. 12, 35032 Marburg, Germany.

The application deadline for 2026 is February 28.
