Dear colleagues,

With apologies for the cross-posting, I am delighted to announce the publication of my book, The Meeting of Rivers: Translating Religion in Early Modern India, published by OUP in the AAR Religion in Translation series: https://global.oup.com/academic/product/the-meeting-of-rivers-9780197833216?cc=us&lang=en&#.

The Meeting of Rivers reconstructs the prehistory of India's newest religion, Vīraśaivism (or Liṅgāyatism) from its own voices, drawing on unstudied and unpublished archival sources in Sanskrit and multiple south Indian vernacular languages, in dialogue with the early history of Śaivism. By radically reframing our understanding of the origins of Vīraśaivism, the book provides a counterpoint to inherited models of both Hindu devotional traditions as well as the history of vernacularization in South Asia. Simultaneously, The Meeting of Rivers articulates a new conceptual vocabulary for speaking in comparative theoretical terms about multilingualism and translation.

As a book series editor myself, I would like to invite all of you to request that your university libraries purchase a copy (as well as the books of all of our colleagues!). Our academic publishing industry continues to depend on the support of university libraries to allow the sort of work we all do to continue in future generations.

If you would like to purchase a hard copy of the book, I invite you all to make use of and share this 30% off discount code from OUP, valid for orders placed on global.oup.com: AUFLY30.

All the best,
Elaine
