1st WORKSHOP ON READING BUDDHIST TEXTS
(Sanskrit, Pali, and Khotanese)
Organized by the Shan State Buddhist University, European Campus
📅 Dates: April 20–25, 2026
📍 Venue: Classrooms of the Castle of San Servando, Toledo, Spain
The workshop consists of guided reading sessions of Buddhist texts in different languages.
It is recommended for intermediate or advanced students, that is, those who already have some prior training.
Each day will include three sessions (two in the morning and one in the afternoon):
Sanskrit: The Tigress Jātaka in the version of Āryaśūra
Pali: The section on wrong views in the Brahmajāla Sutta, with Buddhaghosa’s commentary
Khotanese: Overview of the grammar and practical work on a classical Buddhist text
👉 Students will receive materials for each of these daily sessions, but they are free to choose which ones to attend.

In-person: €150 (maximum 20 participants)
Online (Zoom): €75

The historic city of Toledo, one of the cradles of translation studies in Europe, also offers many accommodation options easily bookable online.
