Dear colleagues,

It is my very sad duty to inform you of the death of our highly esteemed colleague, Professor Edwin Gerow, in the morning of 24th July 2025.

As a scholar he was the most brilliant polymath, being notably a pioneer in the studies of figures of style and an impeccable grammarian.

For some of us, he has also been all along a faithful, generous and very attentive friend. This is the reason why I stop here. I need some more time to properly write the homage he deserves.

My heartfelt condolences to his beloving and beloved wife , his two sons, and his grandchildren, as well as to his numerous students and the colleagues with whom he was always ready to collaborate.
