Deeply saddened to learn of the far too early passing away of Professor  Johannes Bronkhorst, teacher and friend since the early 1990s.
Equally sorry for the passing away of his dear wife Dr Joy Manné, scholar of Theravada Buddhism and Buddhist psychology.
Johannes had actively contributed to and participated in our International Vedic Workshop in Paris just a year and a half ago, in September 2023.
I am grateful for the time I was able to spend with him, over the last decades, in the Netherlands, in Lausanne, and at numerous conferences -- which he often attended together with his wife, but more and more alone in recent years -- always inspiring methodical analysis and critical thinking in his students and colleagues.
The first time I met both of them was at the Seventh World Sanskrit Conference in Leiden, in August 1987, the first World Sanskrit Conference I attended, coming all the way from Utrecht.
It only feels very recently that a beautiful Felicitation Volume, Devadattiiyam, was done for him, in 2012.
Grateful for everything this scholarly couple has contributed.
Their passing away is an enormous loss for Indology and for the human sciences.

Dear friends and colleagues,
I have just received the news that Johannes Bronkhorst left this world
today at noon in a controlled manner, as was his custom, together with his
beloved wife Joy Manné.
He sent the last batch of his papers just a few days ago. He will be
remembered as an innovative and inspired scientist, a cheerful person and
a true and dear friend.
Sadly.
