Dear list members,

Oliver Hellwig asked about entering transliterated vedic sanskrit with accents into latex. I can't help with that. But aren't there larger questions.

1)How do you transliterate vedic sanskrit?
2) How do you type vedic sanskrit in devanagari that isn't from the Taittirīya tradition?

Its relatively straightforward to type Taittirīya passages in devanagari or transliteration as its mainly svarita accent (a quote in transliteration) and anudatta (an underline) and chandrabindu over virama.

But the unicode vedic extensions block has 42 vedic characters  characters  www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U1CD0.pdf

And the unicode devanagari extensions block has (among other characters) svara digits for Samaveda texts and candrabindu over virama for Taittirīya texts.

So are there fonts that have all these characters in devanagari, and would you be able to transliterate vedic sanskrit with these characters?

Thanks,
Harry Spier
