Apropos of this topic, I am providing here a link to the “Jagannātha-priya-nāṭakam”, written by a very dear friend who died tragically in a car crash in West Bengala in 2001, just weeks before he was to receive his PhD in Indology at Cambridge, working under Professor Julius Lipner.

In this book, Tamāla Kṛṣṇa Gosvāmī wrote an original play in which he sought to strictly follow traditonal rules of Indian dramaturgy.

Best wishes,
Howard

You can find this book for $43 from Exotic India Art, a reputable dealer in Delhi and I can attest to their good and reliable service. I have purchased a few sets from them in the last year, especially hard to procure volumes from VVRI and Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, two institutions not known for making their volumes easily available. More importantly, they replaced a duplicate volume in a set I bought (wrong dustjacket on it) at no cost and sent replacement by international FedEx (without a need to return the original), even though I didn’t notice it for almost 6 months after purchase. So I would also say outstanding customer service.

Subject: [INDOLOGY] Bharatanatyam reader

Hi Friends,
Years ago I read a library copy of Davesh Soneji’s edited volume Bharatanatyam: A Reader. It might now be beneficial for a current project. My local library, the University of Chicago, has lost their copy of it and I don’t currently have interlibrary loan access there. Amazon wants $289 for a copy and it appears out of print perhaps? I can’t seem to find a soft copy on the interwebs. Any leads would be appreciated. It really is a fantastic collection of essays.
Thanks,
Charles
