Announcing The Jain Literature Open Repository (JLOR)

We’re excited to share the Jain Literature Open Repository, an online collection of Jain canonical literature, including texts like the Agam and Anuyoga, along with their English translations. This resource is available to everyone, providing raw text for research studies and links to online reading at jainqq.org

In the first phase of this project, we’ve processed and translated over 21,000 pages. We focused on sutra that didn’t already have detailed English translations. While the current translations, mostly generated using Google Gemini and Claude LLM models, are primarily for general understanding, they serve as a foundation for further exploration. We expect the translation quality to improve significantly as we continue refining our processes over the next few years.

This project aims to make Jain philosophy more accessible to both the general public and academic researchers.

Please Note:

  1. The translations aren’t perfect yet, but they help make the content more discoverable.
  2. Some errors, like repeated or irrelevant phrases, might occur due to the AI models used.
  3. We’ve used lightweight models to keep costs low, and we expect the quality to improve in the future.
  4. This email lists out links of one version, there are other versions also available on the JLOR
