Dear Colleagues,

I request your help with the following two:

1. There is a famous story about 'A Brahmin and a Boatman' where the Brahmin knows everything but swimming, and what saves the boatman is swimming, not śāstra. I cannot find the Sanskrit source of this narrative. Is this story even found in any Sanskrit sources? I looked at Hitopadeśa and Pañcatantra but did not find anything. Am I missing something?

2. A non-Indology/non-Sanskritic colleague is looking for a good, robust and sophisticated discussion on the problem of Nigama and Āgama in English. Any recommendations?

I would highly appreciate any cues. With my gratitude in advance.

Mrinal
