Dear Arlo,

Please refer to this page: https://www.indiastudies.org/art-archeology/. In one paragraph here, we read: "In total, CA&A houses more than 2,00,000 images of Indic art and architecture. Digital images from this collection are available for scholarly publications and an online presence is maintained at the Virtual Museum of Images and Sounds. An extensive collection of images from CA&A collection is also available at Artstor and the Digital South Asia Library.”  I don’t see any claim that use of the materials in scholarly publication is subject to copyright protection. If you need confirmation, you may contact:  Dr. Vandana Sinha, Director, at caa.archives@aiis.edu.in

Best wishes,

Elliot

Dear Arlo,

It’s probably best to contact the AIIS directly with this question:

best,

Dear colleagues,

I would like to reference the following photo in a publication:

Is the number 23988 the photo's item number? If yes, is there any integral listing of all AIIS photos, or an interface where photos can be searched by photo number? In other words, could I make do with a citation like 'AIIS photograph no. 23988' as a possibly more perennial citation mode than than citing the URL?

Best wishes,

Arlo Griffiths
