Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you that the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich has just posted a call for applications to a Professorship in Modern Indology on its job portal. Please find below the relevant links to the call in English and German:

This is a W2-professorship with tenure track. The professorship in Modern Indology, held until September by our colleague Robert Zydenbos, is one of the three professorships at the Institute for Indology and Tibetology, alongside that of Classical Indology and that of Tibetan and Buddhist Studies. As you will see in the job description (also enclosed as PDF), the call is very broad, the focus being on the intellectual, cultural, and/or social history of Early Modern and Modern South Asia. The knowledge of Indian languages is required, but no specific language, literature, or area of expertise will be privileged a priori. Finally, note that early-career academics are very welcome to apply.

I would be grateful if you could kindly bring this call for applications to the attention of suitable candidates. This especially since the deadline to apply is 17 August, which will likely fall during the summer holidays of many colleagues.

With kind regards,

Vincent Tournier
