This announcement may look a bit out of place here, since we may assume
that all the readers on this list can already read Sanskrit, but perhaps
this announcement can be passed on to others. Due to popular demand, I
am repeating something I did many years ago: my course "Sanskrit for
Philosophers". This time online.
This is a course
for people who do not intend to become full-fledged Sanskrit scholars
but who are interested in certain types of non-belletristic Sanskrit
texts. The basic idea is that philosophical (scholarly, technical, etc.)
Sanskrit is a subset of Sanskrit; this
means that one need not master Sanskrit fully in order to read such
philosophical writing. With just 2 hours of teaching a week, I had
students in the past read parts of Śaṅkara’s commentary on the
Bhagavadgītā on their own within 5 months.
Further details can be found in the attached PDF file. Applications
until Sep. 15. Admission is limited.
