It is a pleasure to announce the winners of the inaugural UC Davis dissertation and graduate essay prizes in Jain Studies. The dissertation prize comes with a $1500.00 cash prize and a citation. Winner: Eric Gurevitch, University of Chicago for his dissertation, "Everyday Sciences in Southwest India" 

The Mohini Jain Presidential Chair in Jain Studies Best Graduate Essay Prize 

Winner: Eric Villalobos, for his essay, "The Benefits of Bending the Rules: the Social Functions of Yatis in Mūrtipūjaka Śvetāmbara Jainism (c. 18th century-Present)" 
Eric has just completed his MA from SOAS and will embark on his PhD at Emory.
