जातमात्रोऽर्भक: कृष्ण नीतस्त्वं गोकुलं निशि ।
माता क्रन्दति ते भीता कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४११।।
A baby, just born, you were taken to Gokula at night. Your mother who was scared cried: “Where are you, O Kr̥ṣṇa?”
नीतस्त्वं नन्दभवनं स्थापितस्त्वं हरे शिशु: ।
प्रतिगच्छन् पिता ब्रूते हा हा कुत्रासि पुत्रक ।।४१२।।
Taken to the home of Nanda, you, the child, were placed there, O Kr̥ṣṇa. While returning, your father says: “Alas! Alas! Where are you my child!”
गोकुले यमुनातीरे धावन्तमनुधावति ।
यशोदा त्वामपश्यन्ती कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४१३।।
Mother Yaśodā, not seeing you, runs after you who are running on the bank of Yamunā. Where are you, Kr̥ṣṇa?
उलूखले सुबद्धोऽपि मात्रा त्वं निर्गतोऽङ्गणात् ।
यशोदा चिन्तया ब्रूते कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४१४।।
Tied fast to the mortar by your mother, you still went out of the courtyard. The worried mother Yaśodā says: “Where are you, O Kr̥ṣṇa?”
सुहृद्भि: सह लीलायां त्वं वृक्षान्तरित: स्थित: ।
मित्राणि त्वामाह्वयन्ति कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४१५।।
Playing with your friends, you hid behind a tree. Your friends are calling you: “O Kr̥ṣṇa, where are you?”
कर्तुं निबर्हणं कृष्ण कालियस्य नदीजले ।
प्रविष्टस्त्वमदृश्योऽसि कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४१६।।
To take care of the serpent Kāliya, you entered the water of the river and was not seen. Where are you, O Kr̥ṣṇa?
अदृष्ट्वा त्वां भीतचित्ता: क्रोशन्ति सुहृदस्तव ।
बहिरायाहि कुत्रासि हा हा केशव केशव ।।४१७।।
Not seeing you, your scared friends are crying: “Come out! Where are you? Alas! Alas! O Kr̥ṣṇa!”
नृत्यन् त्वं यमुनातीरे गोपीभि: सहसा गत: ।
अदर्शनं, व्याकुलास्ता: क्रोशन्ति तव कारणात् ।।४१८।।
Dancing on the bank of Yamunā with the milkmaids, you suddenly became invisible. The tormented girls are crying because of you.
निर्दयस्त्वं हरे यात: परित्यज्य मनस्विनी: ।
त्वयि सक्तं मनोऽस्माकं कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४१९।।
“You pitiless Kr̥ṣṇa, you went away abandoning us who are proud of ourselves. Our mind is attached to you, O Kr̥ṣṇa. Where are you?”
अक्रूरेण समं यातो मथुरां गोकुलाङ्गणात् ।
त्वया विना न जीवाम: कुत्रासि मधुसूदन ।।४२०।।
“Along with Akrūra you went to Mathurā from the courtyard of Gokula. We cannot live without you. O Kr̥ṣṇa, where are you?”
