When did we start getting ashamed of events in mythological narratives as if they were facts. 

This way, if we browse through worldwide myths, there can be no end to our getting ashamed.

There is a story in the Yogavasista about a Candala who becomes a king and is found ot, whereupon his subjects all immolate themselves.
