Dear Friends and Colleagues,
The writer, filmmaker, independent researcher and my friend Kombai S. Anwar has recently completed a superb film on the history and culture of the Tamil Muslim community in South India.
The film, entitled "Yaadhum", is very well researched, shot in beautiful HD, and centers around Anwar's quest for his cultural roots and identity. A website with more information about the film, historical perspectives, and media related to Islamic architecture, literature, and music in South India can be found athttp://yaadhum.com/.
Anwar has informed me that after much time and effort he has finally succeeded in making the film available for purchase outside of India. The film, available in both English and Tamil versions, can now be purchased for a mere $20 at the website mentioned above. I highly recommend that scholars who are interested in South Indian and/or Islamic cultures or who teach undergraduate courses on these topics consider purchasing this film or encourage their home institution to do so.
Those in or visiting the Toronto area may also wish to know that the North American premiere of the film will be held at the Aga Khan Museum on February 4, 2015 at 7 pm as part of the museum's Inaugural Film Festival series.
All the best,
Eric Steinschneider
