Ufalvy, Károly Jenoe de Mezoe-Koevesd / Charles-Eugène / Karl
Eugen von Mezo Kovest
Hungarian aristrocrat born in Vienna 16.5.1842, died 1904. Having
visited the Military Academy in Vienna, he served as lieutenant in
the Austrian cavallery (1861-64). He then took up studies at Bonn
University, and moved to Paris in 1866, where he became a
professor for Oriental Studies in 1873. Between 1876 and 1882 he
undertook three expeditions to Central Asia for the French
government. The results are published in the 6 volumes of his
"Expédition scientifique française en Russie, en Siberie et dans le
Turkestan" (Par. 1878-80, 6 Bde.). He published various other
books on Oriental subjects etc.
