I wonder if anyone has insight or further references to the reasons for using the black goatskins in the rajasuya sacrifice as it is described in the Aitareya Brahmana (7.4.23). It appears to me that this text has something to do with a temporary caste transformation (a ksatriya temporarily becomes a brhamin for one part of this ceremony) and that the black goatskin which the king dons is somehow important to this temporary transformation.
