In the  Mārkaṇḍeyapurāṇa  Prāgjyotiṣa is described as the kingdom of mleccha. Inscriptions support an association between  Śālastambha dynasty of Kāmarūpa and the mlecchas, but they also connect Naraka's mytho-historical dynasty to the mlecchas.
