[INDOLOGY] Invitation International Students’ Conference Dhammasākacchā on “Contribution of Buddhist Literature to the Indian Knowledge System”

Dear All,

Greetings!!!

The Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, SPPU, Pune, India, has been
organizing a students’ conference since 2014 in order to provide a research
platform to the students of Pali and Buddhist Studies to share their
research findings. In this academic year 2025‒26 the department is planning
to organize the conference on Saturday, 10th January 2026 from IST 9:00 am
to 6:00 pm. The theme of the conference is “Contribution of Buddhist
Literature to the Indian Knowledge System”. In this regard we hereby invite
regular bonafide students of an academic institute pursuing Ph.D., M.
Phil., (Research Group); M. A. (PG Group); Integrated M. A. (UG Level),
PG-Diploma, Diploma, Advanced, Foundation and Certificate courses (UG
Group) to participate and present their research papers. The conference
will be organized in offline mode. Only students outside India may be
allowed to attend the conference online on request.

*Concept Note*

The world is undergoing rapid changes in the knowledge landscape. The gap
between the current state of learning outcomes and what is required must be
bridged through undertaking major reforms that bring the highest quality,
equity, and integrity into the system. World-class institutions of ancient
India such as Takshashila, Nalanda, Vikramshila, Vallabhi, set the highest
standards of multidisciplinary teaching and research and hosted scholars
and students from across backgrounds and countries. Buddhist literature is
available in different languages. Do they have some content which can
contribute to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS)? What is the take of
Buddhist literature on topics such as what is knowledge and processes
related to knowledge, knowledge creation, knowledge preservation, knowledge
management, and knowledge dissemination? What are the different knowledge
areas to which Buddhist literature has contributed and can contribute? It
could be literary sciences, medicinal sciences, life sciences, technology
and social sciences. There is a need to highlight the contribution of
Buddhist literature to different areas of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS).

*Sub-themes:*

1.      What is knowledge and what are its types?

2.      Buddhist literature on knowledge creation, preservation,
dissemination and management.

3.      Contribution of Buddhist literature to Literary Sciences (such as
Grammar, Lexicography, Prosody and Metrics), Health Science, Environmental
Science, Life Sciences, Technology and Social Sciences (such as Economics,
Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, Jurisprudence).

In this regard we would appreciate active participation of students from
