Dear List members,
I am trying to make sense of the combination jamiṇaṃ in, among other passages,
iccatthaṃ gaḍhie loe jamiṇaṃ virūvarūvehim satthehiṃ puḍhavikammasamāraṃbheṇaṃ puḍhavisatthaṃ samārabhamāṇe aṇṇe va’ṇegarūve pāṇe vihiṃsati (Āyāraṃgasutta I, § 14 in Jambuvijay’s edition). My question is if jamiṇaṃ may be compared to Pāli yadidaṃ, “as that, which is this (i.e. the following), viz., that is, in other words, so to speak, just this” in, e.g. kāmānaṃ etaṃ nissaraṇaṃ yadidaṃ nekkhammaṃ, “there is an escape from the lusts, viz. lustlessness”. jamiṇaṃ, however, differs in its use, in that it is followed by a complete sentence: “for this people are caught in a net; I mean, (for this) they (he) … are (is) hurting many other living beings.”
