Dear Friends,
Separately from the Ghent Centre for Buddhist Studies post I shared earlier
this afternoon, The Ghent Centre for South Asian Studies also has a call
out for postdoctoral fellowships.
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position (junior or senior, both
three years) at the Ghent Centre for South Asian Studies
<https://research.flw.ugent.be/en/gcsas>. This is a vibrant,
interdisciplinary research group focusing on South Asia and committed to
working with primary sources. The applications run through the Flemish
Research Fund, FWO. This fellowship is open to scholars worldwide. There
are two fellowship opportunities: the Junior FWO Postdoctoral Fellowship
<https://www.fwo.be/en/support-programmes/all-calls/postdoctoral-researchers/junior-postdoctoral-fellowship/>,
which is open to those who have received their PhDs within the past three
years and the Senior FWO Postdoctoral Fellowship
<https://www.fwo.be/en/support-programmes/all-calls/postdoctoral-researchers/senior-postdoctoral-fellowship/>,
which is open to those who have received their PhD no earlier than three
years ago and no later than six. Those who have successfully obtained a
Junior Fellowship are automatically eligible to apply for a Senior
Fellowship after thus potentially bringing the total fellowship length to
six years. This year's application cycle will open on September 18, 2025 with
a deadline of November 17, 2025 at 17.00 CET. After the initial deadline,
positively reviewed applicants are invited to participate in an interview
process in the spring. Results will be announced on May 21, 2026 with
successful applicants able to choose a starting date of either *October 1*
or *November 1, 2026*.
Supervisors accepting applicants are:
Eva De Clercq (Jain Studies, Literature ev.declercq at ugent.be)
Charles Disimone (Buddhist studies, charles.disimone at ugent.be)
Sara Mondini (Art and Architecture, sara.mondini at ugent.be)
Projects dealing with topics falling broadly under South Asian
Studies/Indology are encouraged.
If you are interested in applying, please send your CV and a brief abstract
of a potential project topic to the supervisor, or supervisors if you would
like to do a multidisciplinary project, you would like to apply with the
support of. We encourage interested folk to contact us early as the
application process can be somewhat rigorous.
Feel free to forward this information to anyone who may be interested.
With our best wishes,
The GCSAS
(Eva De Clercq, Charles DiSimone, and Sara Mondini)
