Dear all,

the work on encoding Sirmauri in Unicode has recently resumed and an updated proposal has been posted here: https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2025/25134-sirmauri.pdf

Sirmauri is technically a historic script that is still being used by some communities today. In a similar recent situation with Tulu/Tigalari, there have been considerable disagreements between the historical orthography and the modern practice, and the situation haven't been resolved yet. My concern is that the work on the Sirmauri script is done with the modern communities only, with no voice from scholars who work with or would be interested in the script in the context of historic materials. Perhaps everything is nice and peaceful, but in case the scholars had different requirements and opinions than the modern users, I would very much like to know about the differences before any irreversible decisions are taken for supporting Sirmauri on digital devices.

If any of you have experience with Sirmauri or its written corpus, or know of any colleagues that might, please do let me know. I want to make sure your view is also heard.

Thank you and best regards,
