Dear colleagues,
It is my very sad duty to inform you of the death of our highly esteemed colleague, Professor Edwin Gerow, in the morning of 24th July 2025.
As a scholar he was the most brilliant polymath, being notably a pioneer in the studies of figures of style and an impeccable grammarian.
For some of us, he has also been all along a faithful, generous and very attentive friend. This is the reason why I stop here. I need some more time to write the homage he deserves.
My heartfelt condolences to his beloving and beloved wife , his two sons, and his grandchildren, as well as to his numerous students and the colleagues with whom he was always ready to collaborate.
Lyne Bansat-Boudon

Hello all, my first book has come out and is available for sale from India for the moment, but a stock will be at the EFEO in Paris for sale from their website by the fall. The translation part is in English and French but the notes and study in French only. The announcement:

JUST RELEASED

Language: French, Sanskrit. 1500 Rs (48 €). ISBN: 978-81-8470-258-3 (IFP); 978-2-85539-299-8 (EFEO)

Summary:

This book puts into context the “charms” of the Atharva Veda, an ancient ritual tradition originating in the northwestern area of the Indian subcontinent, through a critical examination of ideas frequently encountered in studies of this Veda, in particular the usage of the label “magic” as well as of the notions of poetry and performativity. This introductory study is followed by the critical edition and translation into English and French of the forty hymns of book 3 of the Paippalādasaṁhitā of the Atharva Veda, along with a detailed commentary in French for each hymn. This book will interest not only sanskritists and scholars of South Asia but also linguists, ethnolinguists and anthropologists.
