मृच्छकटिकं नाम प्रकरणं गोतीर्थे प्रयोक्ष्यते! गोतीर्थकाः केचिच्छिष्याचार्याः संस्कृतप्राकृतभाषानुरक्ताः स्वोपकाराय, परोपकाराय च यथाशक्ति प्रकरणमेतत्प्रकाशयितुमुद्यताः । अद्य यावद्बहून्मासानस्मिन्कार्ये तत्परा वयं मासाभ्यां तत्संपादयाम इति निवेदयितुमिच्छामि ।

तत्र, का भूमयः, किं च वस्त्विति चेत्कुतूहलं, श्रूयताम्! आपद्गतोऽपि नियतसंपादितार्थिसंपन् नियतेन्द्रियोऽन्तर्धनधार्यार्यचारुदत्तो नाम महाब्राह्मणो, विविधविभवभूतिभूषणभूषिता सर्वगुणसंपन्ना सर्वकलाप्रवीणा सकललोककमनीया वसन्तसेना नाम कुलजा गणिका, तथा नखमलगन्ध इव कुत्सित एव सधनो निरन्तर्धन उद्धतोऽबलोऽपि प्रचण्दः, कदाकारोऽपि कामी, निन्द्योऽप्यहंभद्रभाग्, उपहास्योऽपि कविंमन्यो, निराचारोऽपि सपरिवारो, ऽस्पष्टवाद्यपि श्यालतयैव संमतः, संस्थानको नाम शकाराभिधानख्यातः ख्यातः क्षोणीपालश्यालश्चेति भूमिकानामेकाः । अपि च, तेन पापिना निकृता वसन्तसेना विप्रगृहे शरणं लब्ध्वा तस्मिन्ननुरक्ता, स च कदम्बकोरकवत्तस्याम्। यत्तद्रागाज्जातं, तदुत्प्रेक्षातिक्रान्तम्। अतो, यथावसरं द्रष्टुमागम्यतामिति सकौतुकान्प्रार्थये, किंच चलनचित्रे नाटकमेतन्मुद्रयिष्याम इति निवेदयामि ।
