[INDOLOGY] captions for images in manuscripts

Dear colleagues,
Can anyone point me to articles on the use of captions to link text with
images in Indian (Sanskrit) manuscripts? Is there any convention of
referring to a figure in a text, like in Latin texts: sicut hac figura
docet (as this figure shows)? I was hoping to find something in the Texts
Surrounding Texts project (https://tst.hypotheses.org/), but haven't so far.
Any pointers would be much appreciated!
