[INDOLOGY] Gerhard Oberhammer 1929-2025

Condolences to his family, colleagues and students...
I look forward to reading an overview of his life and publications.
It is perhaps not well known that in the early nineteen sixties he was a
successor to van Buitenen for whom Jan Gonda had created a position to
teach Indian philosophy at Utrecht. J.A.B. van Buitenen occupied that
position till 1961 when he was appointed at Chicago University.
Around that time the young G.R.F. Oberhammer was appointed at Utrecht
University to teach Indian philosophy as "wetenschappelijk hoofdambtenaar"
perhaps equivalent to Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer. He occupied
that position till 1964, when he was appointed Professor in Indian
Philosophy at the University of Vienna as successor of Erich Frauwallner.
As far as I remember his wife was Dutch, from the city of Roermond.
