[INDOLOGY] Studies on lists of names of deities

Dear list members,
The sanskrit literature is full of lists of deities, 108 names of X, 1000
names of Y etc. Can someone point me to studies of this phenomenon.  Not so
much a study of any one particular list, but studies on the phenomenon as a
whole.
