Dear List members,
In a mail I have received today from the Prākrit Times International students of Prākrit are informed that the Indian government has accorded that language the status of "classical language". I just wonder if this is indeed an act of the Indian government only. If I remember well, at the time in the case of Tamil thanks to the efforts of G.L. Hart the Unesco had been involved as well. Do we have to do with two parallel developments, one national, the other international?
