[INDOLOGY] Avagraha as a mark of elision and Indian and western grammars

Concerning the use of avagraha to mark the elision of a after e or o
Madhav Deshpande wrote:

mentioned in *any *Indian premodern grammar . If not, then from where did
printed editions and western grammars pick up this practice.
