I would also like to add, to what others have said about Paul, that he was
extremely modest and self-effacing. As Peter and others have noted, the
breadth of his knowledge was astonishing and rare, much more so even than
his published work might indicate, but he was always, in the time I knew
him, reassuringly sane and down to earth, as well as generous in his
appraisal of others.
