The Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin<https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/asianstudies/> invites applications for an open-rank (tenured or tenure-track) faculty position in Classical Studies of South Asia, to begin in academic year 2022-23. We seek candidates with research interests centered in a humanities discipline in a period before 1800. In addition to contributing to our Core Texts & Ideas Program<https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/coretexts/>, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly research, teach two courses per semester (including advanced Sanskrit), supervise students at the undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. levels, and contribute to the intellectual life and service needs of the department and the university.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. for appointment as Assistant Professor or higher ranks, or expect to obtain it within a year of joining the faculty as Instructor. Applicants should have a strong publication and research record, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching through innovative course topics and pedagogy, and excellent proficiency in their research language(s) as well as in English. Qualified applicants must have an excellent command of Sanskrit and preference will be given to applicants who also have strong knowledge of a second South Asian language.
