Face masks would indeed be a problem at Damayantī's svayaṃvara:

वरागतानां देवानां दमयन्त्याः स्वयंवरे ।
न विशेषो ऽभवत् तेषां मुखचन्द्रकछादनात् ॥

But the gods were the same to Damayantī anyway.
