Has no one heard of Vijjakā, the 8th or 9th century poetess from Karnataka? I remember her wonderful verse: nīlotpaladalaśyāmāṃ vijjakāṃ mām ajānatā | vṛthaiva daṇḍinā proktaṃ sarvaśuklā sarasvatī. George Hart
