*तक्षक :* पुं० [सं०√तक्ष+ण्वुल्-अक] १. पुराणानुसार पाताल के आठ नागों में
से एक जो कश्यप का पुत्र था और कद्रु के गर्भ से उत्पन्न हुआ था। राजा
परीक्षित की मृत्यु इसी के काटने से हुई थी। २. सर्प। साँप। ३. विश्वकर्मा। ४.
बढ़ई। ५. सूत्रधार। ६. नाग नामक वायु जो दस वायुओं में से एक है। ७. एक प्रकार
का पेड़। ८. प्राचीन काल की एक संकर जाति जिसकी उत्पत्ति सूत्रिक पिता और
ब्रह्मणी माता से कही गई है। वि० १. तक्षण करनेवाला। २. काटने या *छेदनेवाला*।
