Description of subject area: The subject area comprises Indology specializing in the languages and cultures of South Asia. The prospective professor will bear the primary responsibility for this comprehensive field. The main specialization is Hindi and the cultural conditions of South Asia. Other modern languages spoken in the region, and competence in early language stages and Sanskrit, are also regarded as qualifications.
