Number of official languages of India

I think the original number of "Schedule Langugages," in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India, was 14.  Sindhi was added in 1967, making 15.   This remained stable for a quarter-century, until 1992 when Konkani, Manipuri, and Nepali were added, making 18.  Finally, in Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, and Santhali were added, for the current total of 22.  The long period of 15 languages may have led to that figure being copied after it had ceased to be accurate.
