South Asian Islam Position at UC Berkeley

Subject to final budgetary approval, the Department of South and Southeast
Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in South Asian
Islam. Candidates should be prepared to teach graduate and undergraduate
courses on Islam in its South Asian context. They should have competence in
Urdu; research that utilizes other relevant languages, such as Arabic or
Persian, will be welcome. Knowledge of issues pertaining to Islam in
contemporary South Asia will be considered an additional qualification. The
position is to be effective July 1, 2005.

Applications should consist of a cover letter outlining teaching and
research interests, curriculum vitae and publication samples. The names of
at least three recommenders should be provided; the letters should be
forwarded by a dossier service or directly by the recommenders. Applications
