The Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies at the University
of California, Berkeley, invites applications for a full time
position of Lecturer in Urdu.  Candidates should have native or
near-native proficiency in Urdu, with background and experience in
teaching of language and culture.  Evidence of teaching excellence as
well as familiarity with current trends in pedagogy and technology
applications are required.  Experience with proficiency testing and
computer assisted language learning is highly desirable.  Candidates
should have at least an M.A.  They should be prepared to teach Urdu
language at all levels.  Subject to budgetary approval, the
appointment is effective July 1, 2003, and is for one year with a
possibility of renewal on a year-to-year basis not to exceed three
years.
